Why Do You Want This Done?

Hands on a globeNugget: “Leadership is the wise use of power. Power is the capacity to translate intention into reality and sustain it.”~ Warren Bennis

Reflection drill: Get Agreement — Provide Support.

The next time you delegate a task, make sure the person assigned sees how it fits in with the rest of the project or goal.

Why it matters: When you delegate, explain not only the “what” but also the “why.” This will help build cooperation and allow for intelligent participation by everyone involved.

Thinking drill:

Do your team members know why they are doing what they are doing?

When others understand the big picture, won’t they also be more motivated to perform the less attractive but necessary tasks?

Will you remember to explain how a particular task fits into the big picture the next time you delegate?

What’s your take away?
